Along the sidelines of this year’s Annual General Conference of the NBA, which with a tally of more than 17,000 lawyers has been touted as the largest gathering of lawyers globally, the Human Rights Institute of the Association is together with several volunteer group including the Juritrust Centre for Socio Legal Research and Documentation hoisting aloft the banner of Access to Justice.


The NBA – HRI in Partnership with NBA-SPIDEL AND THE 1ST, 2ND AND 3RD VICE PRESIDENTS of the NBA in Collaboration with Legal Aid Council of Nigeria (LACON), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) with support from JURITRUST Centre, PILP, IIDEA, RoLAC Program, DSN, FIDA, AWLA, among others set up the NBA AGC Legal Aid Clinic to help indigent citizens in Abuja on diverse issues such as Landlord and Tenancy, matrimonial disputes; Domestic Violence; Social Inclusion; Child Custody and maintenance; employment disputes; and Human Rights violations.


The legal Aid clinic kicked off with an opening ceremony by the Chair of the NBA-HRI, Chino Obiagwu, SAN. More than 60 volunteer lawyers enrolled in the Clinic attended to a pool of over 300 enthusiastic visitors with one or more of the above challenges. The clinic hours of operation during the Conference – (27 – 30 August, 2023) is 10am to 6pm daily at the NBA AGC Legal Aid Clinic stand opposite the AGC Mammy market next to the registration booths.
